Property Description

Vernon Yard is a cobbled cul-de-sac approached through an entrance under a building on Portobello Road in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It contains 17 properties used for residential and commercial purposes.

Vernon-Yard

When the London Poverty Maps were published, the area was noted as having poorer living conditions with lower than average household earnings.

The Mews is part of Kensington’s ‘Ladbroke’ Conservation Area; designated in 1969, it is situated in the Notting Hill area of North Kensington and predominantly contains Victorian classical architecture around large garden squares.

The two and three storey properties have mansard and pitched roof styles and painted brickwork or rendered facades. Parking is restricted along the cobbled road, with praised party walls and bollards present. Richard Branson once lived here.

Everchanging Nature

Originally the stable house accommodation for the main houses on Portobello Road, the primary purpose of the Mews properties is now a mixture of commercial and residential.

Before and since 2003 there have been a few planning applications made for alterations to the properties in Vernon Yard, most notably; alterations to the existing roof additions of the properties and changes to the fenestration.

Conservation Area controls now apply to new development in the Mews.
