Property Description
Situated to the north of London in Haringey is Middle Lane Mews; a cul-de-sac off Middle Lane. The Mews contains 3 properties used for commercial and residential purposes.
The Mews is part of the Crouch End Conservation Area. A high explosive bomb fell just off Lynton Road in World War II, north-west of the Mews.
The two storey properties have plain brickwork facades and roofs hidden behind parapet walls, surrounded by a tarmacadam road surface and intact or converted garages.
Everchanging Nature
The original purpose of the Mews was to provide stable/ coach house accommodation for the main houses on the surrounding streets and nowadays they are still used for commercial purposes, along with residential. Very few original Mews buildings have survived.
There have been a few planning applications made for alterations to the properties within the Mews both before and since 2003, most notably the extensions of some properties to use as an engineering workshop, alterations to the elevation of a building and the change of use to storage and an office. Conservation Area controls apply to new developments in the Mews.
