Property Description

Situated to the north-east of London in Hackney, is Culford Mews; a cobbled through road off Southgate Road. The Mews contains 17 properties used for commercial and residential purposes.

Culford-Mews

The Mews is part of the De Beauvoir Conservation Area. A high explosive bomb fell onto Balls Pond Road in World War II, just above the Mews and when the London Poverty Maps were first published, the area was deemed to have a mixture of comfortable and poorer living conditions with lower than average household earnings.

Culford Mews is made up of two storey, plain brickwork buildings with gable roof styles, surrounded by a cobbled road surface and partial raised pavements. Parking is restricted and there are intact garages present.

Everchanging Nature

The original purpose of the Mews was to provide stable/ coach house accommodation for the main houses on the surrounding streets and nowadays the properties are used for a mixture of commercial and residential purposes.

There have been a few planning applications made for alterations to the properties within the Mews both before and since 2003, the most notable being the erection of a number single storey extensions.

Conservation Area controls apply to any new development in the Mews.
