Property Description
Caroline Close is a private cul-de-sac off Bayswater Road in Westminster. The close is oriented in a south-north direction and is joined onto Orme Court Mews (an original/ surviving Mews) through a pedestrian access route. Caroline Close contains 26 properties – mostly garages.
In World War II, a high explosive bomb fell onto Lombardy Place, just off Caroline Place nearby. When the London Poverty Maps were published, the area was described as being very wealthy and upper class.
Caroline Close is part of the Church Commissioners’ Hyde Park Estate, and Westminster City Council’s Bayswater Conservation Area, located to the North of Hyde Park.
The close has three storey, plain brickwork properties with mansard roofs and a tarmacadam road surface. Parking is restricted.
Everchanging Nature
The close is now used primarily for residential purposes. There have been a few planning applications made since 2003, mainly minor changes concerning foliage. Conservation Area controls now apply to any new development.
