Property Description
Situated in south-east London in the Borough of Lewisham, is Ashby Mews; a part-cobbled Mews-style through road off Ashby Road. The Mews contains a few properties – mainly run-down garages.
The street is in the Brockley Conservation Area. When the London Poverty Maps were published, the area surrounding the Mews was deemed to have very comfortable living conditions and higher than average household earnings. A high explosive bomb fell directly onto the Mews in World War II.
The one and two storey properties have plain brickwork facades and gable or parapet roof styles, surrounded by a cobbled, pebbled and tarmacadam road surface with intact garages.
Everchanging Nature
The original purpose of the street was to provide stable/ coach house accommodation for the main houses on the surrounding streets and nowadays they are used primarily for commercial purposes, with the original garages remaining.
