June 2015 – Camden Mews
We’re half way through the year, and with the longest day on the horizon June features the longest Mews.
On or around June 21 each year, the rays of the sun will be perpendicular to the Tropic of Cancer – This day is known as the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.
The equator enjoys twelve hours of daylight, there are 24 hours of daylight at the North Pole and 24 hours of darkness at the South Pole.
June 20-21 brings about the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere but simultaneously the start of winter in the Southern Hemisphere. It is also the longest day of sunlight for places in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest day for cities south of the equator.
Camden Mews is one of, if not the longest Mews in London and represents an area of artists and architects studio houses, which became popular in the early 1960’s onwards. The Mews contains 110 properties used for residential and commercial purposes. When the London Poverty Maps were first published, the area was deemed to have a mixture of comfortable and poorer living conditions.
