Property Description

Situated within Inner London in the Borough of Camden, is Rochester Mews. It is located on the site of an original Mews but has been re-developed to a degree that it no longer contains any surviving Mews properties. The Mews is a cobbled through road with a cul-de-sac section off Rochester Road, leading to Rochester Place, which does contain original/ surviving Mews properties. The Mews contains 14 properties used for residential and commercial purposes.

The Mews is not part of a Conservation Area. A high explosive bomb fell onto Camden Road, east of the Mews, presumably causing damage to the properties in World War II and when the London Poverty Maps were first published, the area was deemed to have a mixture of comfortable and poorer living conditions.

The two storey properties have plain brickwork facades with roofs hidden behind parapet walls, surrounded by a cobbled road surface and raised pavements.

Everchanging Nature 

The original purpose of the Mews was to provide stable/ coach house accommodation for the main houses on the surrounding streets and nowadays they are predominantly used for residential purposes, with some commercial activity also taking place.

Before and since 2003 there have been many planning applications made for alterations to the properties within the Mews, the most notable being; rear and roof extensions, the complete demolitions and rebuilding of certain properties and alterations to the fenestration.
