Property Description
Situated within Inner London in the Borough of Camden, is Parker Mews; a gated cul-de-sac off Parker Street. The Mews contains 30 properties used for residential and commercial purposes. It is located on the site of an original Mews but has been re-developed to a degree that it no longer contains any surviving Mews properties.
The Mews is part of the Seven Dials (Covent Garden) Conservation Area; designated November 1971, it contains a large range and mix of building types and uses – not dominated by one particular period or style but rather a combination and collection of many.
When the London Poverty Maps were first published, the area was deemed to have a mixture of different living conditions.
The one, two and four storey properties have plain brickwork facades with a mixture of mansard, pitched and flat roof styles, surrounded by a tarmacadam road surface.
Everchanging Nature
The original purpose of the Mews was to provide stable/ coach house accommodation for the main houses on the surrounding streets and nowadays they are predominantly used for residential purposes, with some commercial activity also taking place.
Before and since 2003 there have been very few planning applications made for alterations to the properties within the Mews, the most notable being the installation of satellite dishes onto the properties. A planning application was granted in 2013 for the redevelopment of the area. Conservation Area controls apply to any new development in the Mews.
