Property Description
Situated in South-West London in the Borough of Wandsworth, is Battersea Mews; a gated and cobbled cul-de-sac approached through an entrance under a building on Battersea High Street (numbers 163-175). The Mews contains a few properties used for residential purposes. It is located on the site of an original Mews but has been re-developed to a degree that it no longer contains any surviving Mews properties.
The Mews is not part of a Conservation Area. A high explosive bomb fell onto Battersea High Street in World War II and when the London Poverty Maps were first published, the area was deemed to have very comfortable living conditions with higher than average household earnings for the time.
No details are recorded about the Mews on account of it being gated and no access permitted to the general public.
Everchanging Nature
The original purpose of the Mews was to provide stable/ coach house accommodation for the main houses on the surrounding streets and nowadays they are predominantly used for residential purposes. Two roundhouses were built on the site of the Mews in 2008.
