Property Description
Situated within Inner London in the Borough of Camden, is Colas Mews; a cul-de-sac off Birchington Road and in line with Quex Mews, also containing redeveloped Mews properties. The Mews contains very few properties used for residential and commercial purposes. It is located on the site of an original Mews but has been re-developed to a degree that it no longer contains any surviving Mews properties.
The Mews is not part of a Conservation Area. When the London Poverty Maps were first published, the area was deemed to have a mixture of comfortable and poorer living conditions.
The two storey properties have plain brickwork facades with a mixture of mansard and pitched roof styles, surrounded by a tarmacadam road surface.
Everchanging Nature
The original purpose of the Mews was to provide stable/ coach house accommodation for the main houses on the surrounding streets and nowadays they are predominantly used for residential purposes, with some commercial activity also taking place.
Before and since 2003 there have been many planning applications made for alterations to the properties within the Mews, the most notable being; the change of use from offices to a studio flat, roof additions and alterations to the fenestration.
